Body and Mind = BAM!
BAM! Body and Mind is an online destination for kids created by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), an agency of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Designed for kids 9-13 years old, BAM! Body and Mind gives them the information they need to make healthy lifestyle choices. The site focuses on topics that kids told us are important to them — such as stress and physical fitness — using kid-friendly lingo, games, quizzes, and other interactive features. |

Camp Easter Seals
Camp Easter Seals, accredited by the American Camping Association, has brought the great outdoors to scores of children and adults with disabilities since 1983. Located at 7200 ft. high in the Zuni Mountains outside of Gallup, NM, the 160-acre site in the tall pines is totally accessible from its cabins to its trails to its basketball court to its putting green. Camp Easter Seals is the only residential camp in the southwest for people with disabilities, and many of our campers return year after year to renew friendships. The site is owned and maintained by the Southwest District Kiwanis Foundation. Accessible grounds and facilities, adaptive equipment and experienced professional staff make it possible for campers with disabilities to enjoy even the most challenging aspects of camp life. |

NM Adaptive Ski Program
The Adaptive Ski Program provides safe and supportive alpine ski lessons for adults and children with physical and/or developmental challenges. A sense of accomplishment and a boost in self esteem usually accompany a day on the slopes. Since skiing is a gravity driven sport, even the least mobile candidates can participate in the risk taking, physical exercise, and enjoyment that come from skiing. |

NMSU Lions Survivor Camp
The Sunrise Lions Club and the NMSUAPE program have teamed up to challenge Deaf and Hard of Hearing children ages 5-13 in Southern New Mexico. Campers are welcome no matter what communication method they use. Lions Survivor Camp provides a developmentally appropriate atmosphere to foster motor skills and recreational enjoyment. Staff and volunteers range from Deaf and Hard of Hearing adults to NMSUAPE students from the Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance Department at New Mexico State University. |

Swim with the Stars
Swim With The Stars, in a partnership with Integra Sports, is tremendously pleased to offer a uniquely integrated Disability Swimming Camp at each of the 2005 Swim Camp locations. The Disability Swim Camp brings together Erin Popovich, 7-time Athens gold medalist and Star of U.S. Paralympics swimming, with Paralympic and Olympic coaches and trainers, to inspire and instruct the next generation of swimmers with disabilities. This two-day program will help youngsters with disabilities draw on the passion of all of our Stars, who are eager to bring practical training and lessons to future Paralympic athletes. |

Try It Once, Inc.
Try It Once is part of the non profit organization, A Wheel Ahead, Inc., currently located in the Phoenix area. Our mission is to provide individuals with physical disabilities an opportunity to become active in wheelchair sports and recreational activities. Try It Once will work with local adaptive organizations to coordinate and exchange information, minimize duplication of programs and offer as much variety as possible so individuals can find the activities that work for them. Our goal is to raise awareness of wheelchair sports and recreational activities through the tag line "Try It Once". Individuals, regardless of physical abilities, will have the opportunity to participate in all life has to offer. We are working with local hospitals, schools, rehab facilities and caregivers to reach those who will benefit from this effort and provide assistance to encourage individuals to Try It Once! |

Desert Challenge Games
The Mesa Association of Sports for the Disabled sponsors the Desert Challenge Games annually during the third weekend in April. The Desert Challenge Games is Olympic style competition specifically for athletes with physical disabilities. 2006 Desert Challenge Games scheduled for Thursday, April 27th, Friday April 28th and Saturday April 29th. National Junior Disability Championships
The National Junior Disability Championships (NJDC) began in July of 1984 and consisted of only three events sanctioned by Wheelchair Sports, USA for wheelchair athlete?s ages seven to nineteen. Since that time, the NJDC have grown to include over 250 athletes with spinal injuries, cerebral palsy, visual impairments, amputations, limb deficiencies, and other congenital anomalies from all over the United States and several foreign countries. The age range for participation is now 7-21 years old. Although Wheelchair Sports, USA is the title sponsor, National Disability Sports Alliance, Disabled Sports USA and the United States Association for Blind Athletes now recognize it. At each National Junior Disability Championships, competitions are held in Olympic-style events including track, field, pentathlon, boccia, swimming, archery, table tennis, 3-on-3 wheelchair basketball and weightlifting. |
